Shame and Embarrassment


There many examples of situations that make people feel embarrassed or ashamed.

These can include things like:

  • Not liking how we look…feeling unattractive
  • Having an affair or inappropriate relationship
  • Being attracted to members of the same sex
  • Hoarding
  • Stealing
  • Having anxiety or panic attacks
  • Doing badly in school grades… failing on exams, tests, assignments
  • Addictions
    • Alcohol
    • Drugs
    • Gambling
    • Sex
    • Pornography
    • Games
    • Shopping

and many, many more. What you need to know is that, no matter what, you will never be judged or look down upon by your counselor at Park Bench. We recognize that, as human beings, all of us can be weak and fallible. All of us can stumble and fall. It is no one’s place to judge. No matter what we have done or how we are feeling, we need people to care and treat us with compassion and respect. This is a basic ethical principle around which we believe all human relations should be built. In the counselling sphere, it is critical to the healing process.
